With the expansion of renewable energy opportunities, Solar is the GCC’s desired option to be the major pillar for energy diversification strategies to move away from traditional carbon-based energy sources.
Bahrain’s energy vision is committed to producing 5% of its electricity from renewable sources. Bahrain will be the first in the region to implement 5MW of distributed smart solar energy which is clean and efficient with the use of smart grid technology, enabling Bahrain to produce 100,000 PV panels annually, or about 274 panels daily.
Bapco has recently started harnessing solar energy through another clean energy project in collaboration with the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA), the Electrical and Water Authority (EWA), and the University of Bahrain which involves 21,000 solar panels and is currently being carried out by a US firm, Petra Solar.
The Solar Utilities Network (S.U.N.) Forum will take place alongside the Gulf Industry Fair 2018 which will promote a network of expertise and knowledge exchange for those in solar and renewable as well as add to a greater awareness of how solar will affect industry and society and the commercial opportunities for both users and suppliers.
